According to TBO.com, on Thursday, November 7, 2013, a man responsible for the death of 2 young hotel workers who were crossing Harbour Island Bridge on October 30, 2010, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for 2 counts of DUI Manslaughter.
It was a horrific accident to say the least. Doug Kozar, 23, was hit from behind and catapulted onto a metal grate and died of a lacerated heart. Kate Kolier, 24, died of brain injury after being plummeted into the wall of the bridge.
The man who was sentenced, a dentist by the name of Matthew Moye, had a blood alcohol level of .13, exceeding the level 0.08 in which the state of Florida presumes impairment.
Nothing can bring back the lives of those two young people. It is so sad to think of how many people out there drink and drive. It really makes the roads a dangerous place, especially at night time.
