Personal Injury Attorney Julia Metts
Julia A. Metts is a nationally recognized litigation strategist, advocacy teacher and trial attorney. Julia’s advocacy and education experience includes Vice-President of Trial School, a non-profit advocacy resource center for attorneys, and Director of Programs for MTMP’s Paralegal College Program, Law School Professor and a successful tenure as Director of Trial Programs at Stetson University College of Law. During her many years at Stetson College of Law, Ms. Metts managed, coached, and trained the members of Stetson’s nationally recognized Trial Team. She also taught courses on The Federal Rules of Evidence and Trial Advocacy.
Julia’s litigation experience includes a vast array of both criminal and civil cases. Prior to her time leading Stetson’s nationally ranked trial program, Julia was an Assistant State Attorney with the State Attorney’s Office in the Fifth Judicial Circuit. During the first 14 years of her career, Julia actively tried misdemeanor, felony, career criminal, RICO and homicide cases. In addition to her experience in the courtroom, Ms. Metts managed local county offices, trained young lawyers and law enforcement officers across the State of Florida. It was during this decade of trial practice Julia was able to use the skills she learned as a student at Stetson Law to successfully litigate and consult on all types of cases. Building on her success at both Stetson and the State Attorney’s Office, Julia joined Levin Papantonio Rafferty in 2020, during the height of covid. It was there Julia learned to navigate the complexities of Mass Torts and preparing complex litigation for discovery and trial.
Ms. Metts regularly presents at nationally recognized conferences on topics of women’s empowerment, diversity and inclusion in the legal industry, work life balance, persuasive presentations and advocacy skills.
Julia is a founding board member of The League, a group dedicated to uniting all women in the legal industry. Additionally, Julia is a faculty and board member for The Society of Women Trial Lawyers.
In her non-lawyer life, Julia is best described as a lifelong student and teacher. She’s fierce and kind; relentless and forgiving; and wears her heart on her sleeve, regardless of aesthetics. She absolutely loves spending time with her family, being outdoors, learning new things and simply trying to do one thing every day to make this world a better place.
