Semi Truck Accidents in Winter Haven, Florida

Accidents with semi trucks are dangerous, and the team at Brooks Law Group is committed to protecting Tampa drivers from this risk! Semi trucks are a huge part of Florida traffic, as we depend on them to haul goods in and out of the state. I-4, Highway 75, and Highway 95 are all congested with semi trucks on a daily basis, in addition to our local roads and highways. These local roads bring those same trucks to our communities for unloading at our stores and warehouses. While we are thankful for all they provide, these large-scale vehicles come with many risks and dangers for other drivers on the road.

The sheer size of these trucks alone is enough to make them threatening to drivers around them. Their size means longer braking times, limited visibility, and increased response times, so accidents involving these trucks are frequent. Sadly, accidents with semi trucks most often end in injuries or fatalities to other drivers, as smaller vehicles are no match for semi trucks. With so many of them on the road here in the Tampa area, how can you protect yourself from serious accidents with semi trucks?

Here are our top 3 tips:

  1. Keep a safe distance. NEVER tailgate a large commercial vehicle. If you can’t see their mirrors, they can’t see you! This rule applies to the front of the truck too. If you need to merge in front of a semi truck, allow plenty of space so they can still see you.
  2. Stay visible! Trucks have plenty of blind spots, and you don’t want to be in one for long periods of time. If you have to pass a semi truck, do so quickly, and avoid driving alongside them where visibility can be limited.
  3. Always use your signals. Large trucks require more warning before being able to come to a stop. Suddenly slamming on brakes to make a turn could be tragic for you and your passengers. If you see a turn, stop, or other required action ahead, signal in advance so the semis nearby can anticipate your move and be prepared to stop in time.
