Tampa Bay running

A new year is the time when many of us are starting a fresh chapter, and setting new goals and resolutions for the months ahead. If the holidays pulled you off the exercising bandwagon, or if you are heading into a health journey in 2023, running might be something you’ve considered. After all, running has a plethora of benefits including weight management, heart health, and the benefit of Vitamin D and fresh air if you run outdoors. Here in the Tampa area, runners have their pick of many beautiful trails, city runs, and even indoor gyms that support their running habit and make exercising more fun.

If you live in or around the Tampa Bay area, consider these beautiful runs as you get into the routine of hitting the trail (or the road) in the weeks ahead:

  • Bayshore Linear Park Trail
This run is the best of both worlds: waterfront experience and skyline views. With an almost-continuous sidewalk, this run is easy for beginners, albeit a bit long at 4.5 miles. It’s clearly marked, considered safe, and its a great way to experience Tampa while you get in your miles.
  • Al Lopez Park Loop
This is a shorter run at 1.5 miles, and provides beautiful green views and a shaded run. It’s a wonderful trail when you’re just starting out, and is perfect for warmer temperatures since the shade keeps you cool and there are plenty of water fountains throughout.
  • The Riverwalk and University
Popular with students and professionals alike, this 3.5 mile loop takes you through parts of downtown, along the riverfront in Tampa, and even onto campus at University of Tampa.

No matter where you choose to hit the trail, keep these safety tips in mind:

  • take plenty of water and stay hydrated
  • carry your cell phone for emergencies
  • wear supportive shoes and appropriate run gear
  • keep music/podcasts/shows at a reasonable volume so you can hear emergency alerts around you (i.e. car horns, sirens, etc.)
  • know the rules of the road and follow them
  • always be on the lookout for reckless drivers

We encourage you to embark on this running journey with confidence, and we hope you’ll enjoy getting fit while enjoying the sights and sounds of our beloved Tampa community. Always be mindful of vehicles on the road around you. Pedestrian accidents can and do happen frequently in Tampa, and we don’t want you to be the next victim. If you do find yourself facing an injury due to a reckless or irresponsible driver, call the team at Brooks Law Group. We fight for the justice you deserve and the compensation you need. Call for your free consultation, and remember, when life throws a curveball your way, Look to Brooks!
